How does thermal imaging work for underfloor heating systems?

A thermal imaging survey of an underfloor heating system involves capturing thermal images of the floor with the heating system on. Under the appropriate conditions it is possible to identify the location and route of the sub-surface pipes by way of a temperature difference on the surface of the floor.

Benefits of using thermal imaging

Surveys of an underfloor heating system are carried out for a number of reasons including:

  • To locate and map the network of sub-surface pipes
  • To verify that the installation meets with the design specification
  • To assist in diagnosing the causes of poorly performing areas
  • To assist in locating the source of water leaks

Red Current only use the highest specification equipment

Red Current Ltd uses the highest specification thermal imaging cameras commercially available. Our high resolution cameras are capable of determining temperature differences as low as 0.04°C, enabling us to deliver outstanding results.

What our customers say:

As the Building Services Consultants surveying a large, prestigious property we appointed Red Current to undertake a thermal survey of the underfloor heating system. The survey was required to pinpoint the exact locations of the underfloor heating pipework in order to verify the potential power output of the underfloor heating system. The thermal imaging consultant who undertook the work was very knowledgeable, polite and professional. The equipment used was clearly of good specification. The results of the survey were well presented in a clear and logical report, giving full colour prints of all images taken on site which were of great benefit to us when making our recommendations. We would not hesitate to appoint Red Current for similar projects in the future.Tim Hopkins, Hopkins Coats Associates.
