Application purpose:
Tracing the location and routing of sub-surface underfloor heating pipes

Using the table below, select the most appropriate camera model based on the following application level descriptions. Please also consider any limiting factors that may apply.

• Basic Applications include: Locating and routing of hot water pipework to provide an understanding of the approximate locations. Only recommended on underfloor heating systems installed at shallow depths and spacings at or greater than 300mm centres.
• Intermediate Applications include: Locating and routing of hot water pipework for the purposes of avoiding when drilling or carrying out intrusive works in close proximity.
• Advanced Applications include: Basic and Intermediate applications requiring high quality radiometric images for the purposes of analysing and presenting within a report.

Preparation/Environmental Conditions

Following a suitable amount of time with the heating off and the floor cold, the heating hot water should be turned on. The floor should then be observed with a thermal imaging camera until the location and routing of the sub-surface pipework becomes visible due to the variation in surface temperature on the floor.

Limiting Factors to be considered

Depth of pipes below floor, thick carpets/floor coverings will reduce heat transfer to the surface. In such circumstances, consideration should be given to selecting an increased specification camera which will have a greater chance of success.
