Thermal Imaging Camera Hire for locating moisture ingress and damp
Application purpose:
Locating the presence and extent of damp areas and moisture ingress (water leaks through the building envelope)
Using the table below, select the most appropriate camera model based on the following application level descriptions. Please also consider any limiting factors that may apply.
- Basic Applications include: Where there is already visual evidence of damp and moisture related issues and the heating can be used to heat up the room quickly, surveys could be undertaken to assist in identifying the extent and possible causes.
- Intermediate Applications include: Where is limited control over the heating within the room and/or there is minimal visual evidence of moisture related issues. Surveys could be undertaken to assist with checking properties for the presence of damp or moisture ingress prior to acquisition.
- Advanced Applications include: Basic and Intermediate applications requiring high quality radiometric images for the purposes of analysing and presenting within a report.

Preparation/Environmental Conditions
Following a suitable amount of time with the heating off and the floor/walls/ceilings cold, the suspected areas should be scanned with the thermal imaging camera to locate thermal anomalies (areas of abnormal or unexpected hot or cold spots). This process should then be repeated with the heating turned on noting the locations of anomalies that may appear. It is recommended that any anomalies detected should be verified using a moisture detector.
Limiting Factors to be considered
The combination of the severity of the suspected issues together with the ability to create suitable dynamic thermal conditions (i.e. heat-up the room quickly), is likely to affect the ability to detect surface temperature differences that may indicate the presence moisture. In such circumstances where either is likely to be a factor, consideration should be given to selecting an increased specification camera which will have a greater chance of success.
