Clackmannanshire Council offering Residents Thermal Imaging Surveys
We probably know better than anybody that thermal imaging is a fantastic way for home owners to increase their green credentials and create a more efficient home, and now one council in the UK has started to back the technology for its residents. Clackmannanshire Council is all set to start using thermal imaging technology to help homeowners improve the energy performance of their homes during 2013, a move which could lead to further councils across the UK offering the service. The scheme apparently will be on a first come, first served basis, so if you live in that area and would like to see how energy efficient your home is we would get in quick.
Whilst this news is good for a green Clackmannanshire, though, new home owners (that is, newly built houses) are being left out in favour of old homes:
Clackmannanshire Council's housing convener, Councillor Les Sharp, said on this area: "The council will be targeting older properties and areas that have been identified as having the potential for having failed insulation due to the age and type of insulation installed".
The above makes sense when you think about it. Older properties are more likely to feature old, dilapidated or worse a complete lack of good insulation. Targeting these older residential properties is a good way for the council to try and increase the energy efficiency of their area, as in general newly built homes are well insulated.
Sharp further added: "Where insulation is failing, funding is available to remove the old insulation and to install new cavity wall insulation for free"
So on top of providing thermal imaging surveys for older homes, the council will also provide free insulation. That's a good deal if you ask us, especially now that Winter is upon us and the inevitable frost is settling in.
