Thermal Imagers Certified to New NFPA Criteria by SEI in US
Thermal imaging is not just a growing service across the UK. In the US, thermal imaging is hot stuff, and thermal imaging camera manufacturers must now pass rigorous quality tests to be granted SEI certification.
Although not directly related to commercial thermal imagers, or indeed the UK, the Safety Equipment Institute over in the US have announced that the very first certifications have been issued to the new NFPA criteria for fire service thermal imagers, according to Fire Engineering.
The new criteria, following 2013 guidelines, has revised performance requirements and in areas whole new design requirements. Testing of thermal imaging cameras must now include an Image Recognition Test, Vibration Test, Impact Acceleration Resistance Test, Corrosion Test, Viewing Surface Abrasion Test, Heat Resistance Test, Heat and Flame Test, Product Label Durability Test, Cable Pullout Test, Effective Temperature Range Test, Field of View measurement, Thermal Sensitivity Test, and Durability Test.
All independent testing of specific thermal imaging cameras used by fire and emergency services was conducted by SEI with Intertek closely monitoring them.
The SEI has issued certifications to the 2013 edition of NFPA 1801 for the following models:
Manufacturer/Model Name & Number
Bullard/Bullard, T4N
Draeger/DraÌger UCF 9000, TIC 011
ISG Infrasys/ISG Infrasys, E380
